The below post is cut and pasted from my personal blog on the UK Pagan Community website. It refers to the following conversation thread http://thevalley.ukpagan.com/topic/85677-coincidence-or-not/page__st__30
Just been reading back one of the posts I wrote here earlier today. The one about ravens and whether or not they represent communication from Odin.
In it, I explain that I would apply a rational or mundane explanation for the presence of ravens on 99.9% of occasions, but just sometimes I will take them as what is, perhaps, best described as a warning.
My post ends with, "Not sure why I do this, but as it doesn't happen all the time, I doubt it is just the presence of ravens."
Thing is, I don't actually remember typing that last bit. That wasn't the message I was looking to put across. While it is not completely untrue, my point with the message was to be 'if something seems like it could be a natural occurrence, it probably is....'.
I suppose I should interpret this as my polytheist subconscious trying to express itself? My rational side might be atheist, but I'm a complex little blighter. Maybe I haven't been doing enough of late to properly sate that part of myself?
Pagan-Heathen blog centering on UK-based heathenry but also covering wider pagan issues and paths. The site's remit has now been broadened to cover European pre-Christian history and associated spirituality (historic and reconstructed). First and foremost, though, it is a journal of my journey along my pagan path which is gradually evolving toward an animist perspective. The aim is to promote a positive society inspired by the pre-Christian and non-capitalist cultures of the past.

UKP blog post from 2011: Just what comes to mind...
I read with interest people's discussions about contact with their deities. For some reason, I always imagine this contact as involving auditory and visual experience. This causes me to feel that I will never be anything other than an atheist as the sights and sounds I have on a day to day basis are (mostly!) very mundane. However, it has now occurred to me that I do have a great deal of 'other' sensory information in my day to day life that others would define as of divine origin. Those experiences just usually don't involve sights or sounds. Perhaps the anger I feel when I see others being bullied and hassled, for example, is Thor (or maybe Tyr) telling me to do something about it. Maybe the overall sensations that don't quite fit the space or time I am in are not just my consciousness shifting outside myself briefly. Bearing this in mind, I find that perhaps I am closer to something than I thought I was. If you see what I mean...?
